Women’s FA Cup quarter-final draw: Chelsea Women will face Birmingham City at home
Chelsea FC Women will be up against Birmingham City W in the Women’s FA Cup quarter-final
Chelsea Women had secured their place in the quarter-final of the Women’s FA Cup after taking over Leicester City in round 5. Leicester City Women saw their FA Cup run ended following a scandalous 7-0 defeat at the hands of the reigning champions, Chelsea Women. The collective contribution of Pernille Harder, Sam Kerr, Ji So-Yun, Aniek Nouwen and Bethany England allowed Chelsea to cruise to the monumental win, thus becoming the first team to book their place in the quarter-final.
Considering Chelsea’s current form, to say they are the favourites to win yet another successive Women’s FA Cup trophy wouldn’t be a callous overstatement.

Chelsea FCW to lose their defender, Jonna Andersson, at the end of the season
Chelsea FCW defender, Jonna Andersson is set to return to her native Sweden and join Hammarby IF to compete in Sweden’s top-tier league, Damallsvenskan.

Chelsea have been operating under a government-specified sporting license, following the sanctions imposed on club’s owner, Roman Abramovich. The license prohobits the club from engaging in all commercial activities, especially the transfer sales and contract renewals/extensions.
Jonna Andersson, who left Sweden and Linköpings FC after the 2017 season to join Chelsea FCW, sees her blues contract expire at the end of this season. Due to the club unable to offer contract extensions to existing players, the defender had to sign an agreement with Hammarby that extends over the 2024 season.
“I am very happy to have signed for Hammarby. It is a club with an exciting investment that I want to be a part of. I am really looking forward to coming to the club, getting to know the team this summer and see what we can achieve in the future”. – Said Jonna, according to the Hammarby website.
The 29-year old is credited with racking up seven major trophies during her time at Chelsea, including three WSL titles, two FA Cups and two Continental Cups.
Chelsea FCW are also leading this year’s edition of the FA Women’s Super League with three rounds left, one stick ahead of local rival, Arsenal.
Her collective honors both at domestic as well as national level make for a good weight in the suitcase that Jonna will take to Södermalm. The defender has scored 6 times in her 130 appearances for the blues.
NEWS – Jonna Andersson to leave Chelsea this summer for 🇸🇪.
A dependable and capable LB.
Chelsea tried to replace her last summer after dropping her in the latter stages of the #UWCL but couldn’t find the right signing. They signed Alsu Abdullina in January.#CFCW #Chelsea https://t.co/jN8ANeoM1F

Chelsea boss, Emma Hayes gave her opinion on the move;
“Jonna has been an unbelievable professional during her time with us and instrumental in our success. Her level of commitment to this team has been unreal.
“I’ve no doubt she’ll continue to better herself right to the end of the season and we’ll be sure to give her the send-off she deserves”.
Andersson is one of four Chelsea players out of contract at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, alongside Maren Mjelde, Ji So-yun, and Drew Spence. The players will become free agents until the season’s end and if Chelsea wish to retain their services, they will have to wait for the new ownership takeover to be able to negotiate new contracts.

Chelsea FCW decimated a disoriented Bermingham FCW side with a whopping 5-0 victory in Women’s FA Cup
Chelsea FCW overcame Birmingham FCW to progress into ths semi-finals of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup
Magdalena Eriksson, Drew Spence, Bethany England and Niamh Charles were the players to register themselves on the scoresheet for Chelsea, helping them book their place into the semi-finals of the Women’s FA Cup.
Chelsea FCW got off to a sublime start in the game against Birmingham, creating a number of chances with the first one coming just 10 minutes into the game. However, Millie Bright’s attempted effort went wide.
Bethany England found herself in the goal scoring position twice. First, through Sophie Ingle, a ball that hit the wrong side of the post. Second, owing to the efforts of Eriksson, but England failed to convert the almost-perfect opportunity, a shot that skyed high above the net.
Chelsea were determined in their pressing, constantly pushing for a goal to score but kept missing the target. But not too long after, Eriksson’s superb header proved to be the difference at the break.
Eriksson put Chelsea ahead in the scoreline, after returning from a long spell of injury that saw the captain sidelined for 3 months.
Eriksson’s impressive header broke the deadlock just a minute before the half-time whistle, as Chelsea largely dominated the first-half proceedings.
The second half kicked off with an offensive explosion with 4 more relentless goals that spearheaded a stunning day for the blues.
The second-half breakthrough moment came just 10 minutes after the kickoff. Spence’s shot found the back of the net from inside the penalty area, that doubled Chelsea’s lead. The goal marked Drew Spence’s 50th goal for Chelsea.
Bethany England’s chance finally came when Drew Spence delivered a beautiful ball over to England, who slotted it home from close range, making the scoreline 3-0 for Chelsea.
Chelsea were dominating and were launching wave after wave of attack on the Birmingham goal, with Niamh Charles‘ header being the fourth of the afternoon to have found the back of the net.
Shortly after, Beth England marked her second goal of the day, 5th for Chelsea, which proved to be the final real action of the game as the blues were able to deny their opponents a share of the spoils.
With that, Chelsea FCW are through to the semis of the Women’s FA Cup. The draws for the semi-finals will take place tonight on BBC’s Sports Day programme. The semi-finals are set to be played on the weekend of 16/17 April.
The other qualifiers for the last four are Arsenal, Manchester City and West Ham.

Chelsea Women 1-0 Aston Villa Women – Sam Kerr smashes home a brilliant last-minute strike to keep the Blues in the WSL title race
Sam Kerr smashes home a late winner to cement Chelsea’s second place in the league
Sam Kerr fired home a brilliant late winner, coincidentally drawing parallels with Chelsea men as Kai Havertz also scored a late winner to hand Chelsea the victory.
Chelsea Women faced a resilient Aston Villa Women side in yesterday’s league game. It was the Blues’ first home game since the owner, Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government.
Following a grim and a turbulent week, Sam Kerr gave the fans and the club something to cheer about as she produced a brilliant stoppage-time winner to continue Chelsea’s unbeaten run in the Women’s Super League. It was the Australian forward’s 50th goal for Chelsea and 11th WSL goal of the season.
Chelsea created multiple chances throughout the game but lacked a clinical edge in front of the goal. Most of Chelsea’s better chances came from Kerr, with the most notable one being in the 81st minute that had the supporters thinking the deadlock would finally be broken, however, her attempt was disallowed for offside.
Hayes‘ side kept the pressure on Villa in the latter stages of the game. Their constant retaining of possession and attempts to push for goals eventually ended up dictating the flow of the game deep into stoppage time.
Sam Kerr collected a lengthy ball from the Chelsea goalkeeper, Mušović, chested it down and fired it home with an excellent first touch, 2 minutes into stoppage-time.

It wasn’t just the goal that led to euphoric crowd eruptions but her wild and iconic celebration following the goal made the winning moment all the more exciting.
Kerr ran towards the touchline, whipping off her shirt and waving it in pure ecstasy for which she received an inevitable booking, but even that didn’t interrupt their celebrations.
Chelsea now stand second to the leaders, Arsenal, with the gap of just 5 points and 2 more games to go. The League title race has regained its intrigue as Chelsea are finally challenging Arsenal for the top spot, owing to the efforts of Kerr.
